Role Overview
PI (Physik Instrumente) LP has an immediate opening for an experienced Electro-Mechanical Designer in our Product Engineering group. This is a full-time position, Monday to Friday in our Hopkinton, MA office. We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Electro-Mechanical Designer to support the design and development of integrated mechanical and electrical systems. The ideal candidate will have experience using CAD tools to create 2D/3D models, generate detailed drawings, and work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and electrical teams to ensure design integrity and product functionality. Please note that we will be moving to our new facility in Shrewsbury, MA sometime between the end of October and beginning of November.

Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop electro-mechanical assemblies, cable assemblies, electronics enclosures, and components based on system requirements.
- Create 3D CAD models and detailed 2D drawings using software such as Solidworks Electrical, AutoCAD, and Draftsight .
- Collaborate with electrical and mechanical engineers to ensure cohesive system design and integration.
- Produce wiring diagrams, schematics, and cable assemblies in compliance with industry standards.
- Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of product development processes.
- Coordinate with manufacturing to ensure designs are feasible, cost-effective, and meet production requirements.
- Maintain accurate design documentation, BOMs (Bills of Materials), and revision control.
- Support prototyping, testing, and validation of designs through the development lifecycle.
Key Requirements:
- Experience working with Electrical Engineers to document electrical designs in Solidworks Electrical and AutoCAD.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in electro-mechanical product design.
- Proficiency in 2D drawing creation (cable drawings, schematics, and related documentation).
- Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Familiarity with PDM/PLM systems for data management.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary groups driving schedule and task.
- Confidence and experience to move quickly and make informed decisions.
- Detailed-oriented with a commitment to quality and accuracy.
- Follow 5S and lean manufacturing principles and practices in an ISO 9001 manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience designing rackmount enclosures and sheet metal design.
- Knowledge of UL, CE, RoHS, or other regulatory standards.
- Experience with PCB layout constraints and integration.
- Building qualified hardware for aerospace, military, or automotive applications (DO-160, MIL-STD, SAE, etc.).
- Experience with 3D modeling software and design, preferably SolidWorks.
